CHARLOTTE, N.C. - CCBC Essex head women's basketball coach Mike Seney has been named the 2022-23 NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

In his third season at the helm of the Knights, Seney earned his first national championship victory and first in program history after finishing in third place last season.

"After a 35-1 and third place season in 2021-22, Coach Seney recruited 11 new student-athletes to join just two returnees for the 2022-2023 season. The goal for this season from day one was to finish the job and win a national championship," said CCBC Essex Athletics Director Greg Witkop. "Coach Seney did a great job of turning a talented roster into a cohesive team while playing a very challenging schedule, which included 20 games against teams which were nationally ranked or who played in a national tournament this season."

Coach Seney coached three all-tournament team selections in Anasia Staton, Faith Blackstone and Tyler Gray as well as the 2022-23 NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player, Faith Blackstone. In addition, he coached three NJCAA All-Americans: Faith Blackstone (First Team), Anasia Staton (First Team), and Tyler Gray (Second Team).

The Knights were challenge for every team they faced. They were the top scoring team averaging 92.2 points per game on the offensive side while only allowing 54.6 points per game. They complimented that by being in the top three teams in the nation in the following: first in total rebounds per game (54.2) and second in offensive rebounds per game (21.5).

In his three seasons leading the Knights' squad, Mike Seney has compiled a record of 101-4 (.962).
