Montgomery Upsets Harford for Men's DI Soccer Region 20 Title

BEL AIR, Md. – The second seed Montgomery College men's soccer team upset top seed Harford, 2-1, in the NJCAA Region 20 Division I championship Saturday afternoon. Raptors goalkeeper Youssouf Moumban made 10 saves in the game.

Montgomery (10-5-1) got on the board in the 39th minute with an unassisted goal from Ahmadou Koita. Moumban thwarted the Fighting Owls throughout the first half with eight saves. But in the 50th minute, Harford's Jude Hill solved Moumban, scoring with an assist from Xavier Roy.

Nathan Booth scored from Yoshuke Ono in the 75th minute to put the Raptors back ahead. Harford had chances down the stretch with a corner in the 85th minute and a header handled by Moumban in the 89th minute.

It was a physical game that featured 29 combined fouls and nine yellow cards. Harford (11-2-4) held a 5-2 lead in corner kicks and despite outshooting Montgomery, 17-16, trailed in shots on goal, 12-7.

Montgomery advances to the East District Championship on Saturday, November 4.
