Hawks Fall in Region Semis to CCBC Essex

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women's soccer team lost 3-1 to the CCBC Essex Knights in the Region 20 Division II Tournament semifinal on October 25 in Columbia, Maryland.

The Hawks were overmatched as they had to play without two of their starters. CSM struggled to build and sustain their offensive attack for much of the game.

CCBC Essex scored in the 31st minute and held their 1-0 lead at halftime. They widened their lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute.

CSM got on the board in the 87th minute with a goal from Alexis Corcoran. Megan Hinton delivered a pass from the right sideline into the penalty box to Corcoran, who settled then quickly sent her shot into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

CCBC Essex answered immediately, less than a minute later to erase any doubt of who was going to leave with the victory.

Hinton led the Hawks in shots for the game with four; Cali Barber, Madelyn Minichino, Sofia Larsen, and Natalie Schiavone all had two shots each. Ashley Cox ended the day with seven saves.

CSM ends the year with a 6-4-3 record overall and 3-1-2 record in Region 20 Division II.
