Hawks overtake Penn State Mont Alto 3-0 in home opener

Hagerstown Women's Soccer, (2-0-0) opened at home on Friday, August 25th against the Penn State Mont Alto Lions. PSMA pressured Hagerstown though the first 10 minutes of the match, but the Hawks defense was able to withstand the Lion's scoring attempts, allowing the HCC to find a working offensive strategy. In the twenty-third minute, Kadenn Martin (34) scored first for the Hawks, assisted by Arial Crawford (7). Four minutes later, Martin created space behind the Lion's defense, received an assist from Kayda Shives (4), and scored again to put the Hawks up 2-0. At the forty minute mark, Shives struck from 30 yards out, on an assist from Crawford, to make the score 3-0 Hagerstown, at the half.

The second half of the match was a defensive stand-off, as Hawks goalkeeper, Madison Ellis (25) defended five Lions shots on goal, and PSMA's keeper, Kiaya Mouer (00) stopped seven of the Hawks fourteen total shots on goal in the second half. "Penn State Mont Alto is a good team," commented Coach Clifton Williams. "It took us a little while to adjust to their style of play in the first half, but once we did, we opened up the field and finished our scoring opportunities. In the second half, we created many scoring opportunities, but didn't finish the shots. This group is working hard and is learning and getting stronger with each game. Congratulations to the team on the win!"

Hagerstown plays again at home on Tuesday, September 5th at 2:00 p.m. against the Garrett College Lakers.
