Rogers Todaro Earns Athletic Director of the Year Honors
LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College Athletic Director JoAnn Rogers Todaro has been named the 2023-24 NJCAA Region 20 Athletic Director of the Year. She was awarded in front of her peers at the NJCAA Region 20 annual fall meeting in September, in Flintstone, Md.
The Carol Eustis Region 20 Athletic Director of the Year award is given annually in recognition of professional and program excellence in academics, sportsmanship, and athletics, as well as contributions to Region 20 and professional development. The winner is selected from nominations by Region 20 administrators.
"Receiving the Region 20 Carol Eustis Athletic Director of the Year is a true honor," said Rogers Todaro. "Carol Eustis played an essential role in my leadership development, and I am deeply humbled and honored to receive this award named after her outstanding leadership in Region 20. Carol was a great mentor and true advocate for women, women in athletics and the NJCAA."
Three administrators nominated Rogers Todaro for the award following her contributions in 2023-24. "She is an incredible role model who supports the members of Region 20, strives for growth and opportunities for student-athletes at PG (Prince George's) and across the nation, and has been an outstanding administrator at her institution with a history of success," read one nomination. "Her service as a representative to the NJCAA is valuable beyond measure," said another. Rogers Todaro has served as Region 20 Women's Director since 2013 and is the Region 20 representative on the NJCAA's Board of Regents.
After forming the women's soccer team at Prince George's and serving as head coach from 1997-2004, Rogers Todaro took over as athletic director of the Owls in 2005, overseeing their nine athletic programs. In 2023-24, Prince George's student-athlete Serena Prince earned the title of National Champion in the triple jump at the Track and Field Championships. The Owls advanced their men's and women's basketball teams to the Division III National Tournament following Mid-Atlantic District Championships. Their men's soccer team, which is historically ranked, advanced to the semi-finals in the East B District.
Three Prince George's student-athletes earned NJCAA All-America honors in 2023-24. In the classroom, nine student-athletes were recognized for academic success on the NJCAA All-Academic Teams. Fourteen Owls earned All-Region or All-MD JUCO honors and Owls student-athletes were awarded the Region 20 Player of the Month nine times during the academic year.
At the end of the 2023-24 season, Prince George's elevated all of its Division III programs to Division II status, allowing for new and additional scholarship opportunities for student-athletes.
Rogers Todaro was the 2022 recipient of the George. E. Killian Award of Excellence given to individuals that demonstrate the ideals of voluntarism, achievement, service leadership, and excellence. In 2018 she was the recipient of the Mary Ellen Leicht Service Award which awards those who have made a significant contribution to two-year college athletics on a national level for an extended period of time.
"Prince George's athletic programs are viewed in high regard for their sportsmanship, professional operation, and avoiding incident. That speaks to JoAnn's personal involvement with collaboration and collegiately," said another nominator. "JoAnn is an admirable athletic director with accomplished programs both academically and athletically."
