Owls Down Anne Arundel To Cap Off Home Stretch

Prince George's Community College's baseball team hosted Anne Arundel on Wednesday afternoon, March 10th in the Owls first contest against the Riverhawks this spring season. After a slow start from the Owls, Prince George's found their footing a few innings later after Zach Hurley put the Owls on the board first with a double into left field, sending two runs across in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Owls continued to find success with their bats as they went on to earn a 7-2 victory to improve to 6-4 overall on the year, including 2-1 in Maryland JUCO play. The Owls are now 3-0 on the year when they score at least 7 runs.

The Owls were able to increase their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth after sophomore Aderlyn Cubilete scored from third on a passed ball by Anne Arundel. The Riverhawks would later come to within one run of the Owls at the top of the 6th inning after scoring in both the 5th and 6th innings to trail 3-2. Following the short run by AACC, Prince George's was able to create a bit of separation when freshman Jose Sosa Jr. was able to reach first on an error by the Riverhawks third baseman with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, allowing teammate Jacob Willis to go home and put the Owls in control 4-2.

The Owls tacked on three more runs the next inning to take a commanding 7-2 lead which proved to be the final score after holding the Riverhawks scoreless the remainder of the game. The Largo program will look to continue to emphasize their hitting late in the contest to prevent the Owls from going down to the wire as all four of their losses have been by a single run. Prince George's will get another chance on Thursday, March 12th when they travel to Arnold, MD to take on the Riverhawks again for the Owls first away game of the 2020 season.
