Eight From Region 20 Honored As Women's Lacrosse All-America

Charlotte, NC– The 2023 NJCAA Women's Lacrosse All-America Team features eight Region 20 student-athletes from two member institutions. Anne Arundel Community College has five awardees and Harford Community College has three.

Anne Arundel, who claimed a National Championship with an undefeated season, had the following honorees: Lyndsey Miller, Julia Sokolowski, Savanna Reitz, Nellie Gownley, and Kaitlyn Evans.

Miller, a freshman midfielder, was third in the nation for points with 77; scoring 56 goals with 21 assists. Miller was named Offensive Most Valuable Player at the National Tournament after scoring 12 goals in two games, including seven in the national final. She was also NJCAA Player of the Week April 5-11.

Sokolowski was second in the nation in total points, 83, goals, 60, and assists, 23. She was twice named the NJCAA Player of the Week, March 22-28 and April 19-25 and was named to the National All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore Savanna Reitz, the only returning All-American on the list, handled the majority of the draws for the Riverhawks, winning 52. Reitz led the nation in caused turnovers and added 28 goals and seven assists. She was also selected to the National All-Tournament Team.

Gownley, a talented defensive midfielder, contested the toughest offensive player on opposing teams. The sophomore was consistent in all aspects of the game and was critical in the Riverhawks national championship run scoring five goals in the two-game span. Gownley completes the list of National All-Tournament Team recipients for Anne Arundel.

The final All-America honoree for Anne Arundel is sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans. Evans played every minute in the cage for the Riverhawks culminating in an undefeated season. She accumulated 84 saves with a 9.50 goals against average, saving just under half of the shots she faced.

Harford Community College's honorees are Madison Dawson, Ashley Waldhauser, and Ally Torgerson.

A sophomore, Dawson scored five or more goals in a game three times in the 2023 season, including a season high eight goals against Monroe on April 2. She racked up 32 points on the season on 31 goals and one assist.  

Waldhauser, a freshman attacker, tallied 30 points on the season with 24 goals and six assists. Her best game of the season came in the national semi-final against Anne Arundel where she scored seven goals and facilitated two assists, earning her All-Tournament Team honors.

Torgerson, listed at attack on the All-America list, totaled 14 points on eight goals and six assists in 2023. What doesn't show is her grit and dedication as she entered the cage for the first time as goalkeeper in the national semi-final, making an impressive 11 saves. For her efforts, Torgerson was named to the National All-Tournament Team.
