Rishel Throws 100th Strikeout as Cardinals Win Eighth Straight

With a 15-1 defeat of Camden County, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals softball team won their eighth straight game last Sunday.

The victory was highlighted by freshman pitcher Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown) throwing her 100th strikeout.

The tone was set at the top of the first, as the Cardinals scored six runs. Four more runs were added over the next two innings before Camden County finally scored in the bottom of the third.

Leading 10-1, the Cardinals continued to smash away at the Cougars. A four-run fourth inning put the game in the mercy-rule territory, and after one last run was scored in the fifth, the Cardinals clinched an eighth-straight mercy-rule win.

Rishel threw a complete game, striking out nine batters and reaching 100 strikeouts on the season. Offensively, the Cardinals were led by sophomore outfielder Mackenzie Brooks (Hammond). Brooks hit a double, a triple, and brought home four RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Abigail Heagy (Eastern Tech) added a home run and an RBI, while freshman third baseman Tori Bache (Western Tech) added a double and an RBI. Freshman catcher Caelyn Voss (Catonsville) had two RBIs via sac fly, while her cousin Felicity Voss (Catonsville) added an RBI and a stolen base.

With the win, the Cardinals moved to third in the Region XX standings!
