Cardinals Comeback to Beat Cougars by Four

Cardinals Comeback to Beat Cougars by Four

In their final game before winter break, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals took care of business against Camden County, winning 62-58 after trailing by ten at the half.

Three Cardinals scored in double digits, with freshman guard Lauryn Russell (Pallotti) scoring a new career high thanks to five three-pointers.

The game began as an even match with the two teams tied at 14 following the first quarter. The second saw Camden dominate, as the Cougars held Catonsville to just six points. Trailing 30-20 at the half, the Cardinals would have some serious work to do in the second half.

The third quarter saw more of the same for the Cardinals as they trailed 44-32 entering the fourth quarter. However, two key players for Camden had fouled out, allowing the Cardinals to take advantage.

Catonsville would outscore the Cougars 30-14 in the fourth quarter as they forged a path to victory. Led by Russell's massive night, the Cardinals held on for their sixth victory of the year.

Russell finished the night as the leading scorer for both teams with a new career high of 22 points. Freshman guard Ahna Thomas (Bowie) was once again a scoring machine, adding 19 points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake) was masterful on defense, grabbing five rebounds and nine steals to go along with eleven points.

The Cardinals will next face off against Beaver County after the winter break on January 8.
