Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball (1-1) were defeated 82-71 by Montgomery College on Sunday afternoon as they participated in Sullivan's Season Tip-Off Tournament in Loch Sheldrake, NY.

For the second straight game, freshman Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac) led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-20 shooting, which included a career-high six three-point field goals made. She also added five points from the free throw line and grabbed five rebounds.

Hudson Valley got off to a slow start as they trailed 26-7 after the first quarter. In the opening quarter, the Vikings shot 16 percent from the floor, including 1-of-11 from behind the arc. The Vikings won the second quarter 19-17, which set up a comeback attempt in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Hudson Valley cut their deficit to four points, but ultimately could not overcome their early first half shooting woes. In the second half, Hudson Valley shot 50 percent from behind the arc, making eight three pointers as a team.

Alexandra Rifenburg (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds. She also found her shooting touch from behind the arc as she shot 3-of-7 from downtown.

Hudson Valley women's basketball returns to action for their home opener on Friday, Nov. 8 when they take on Jefferson at 6 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
