Cardinals Blow Late Lead to Anne Arundel

Coming off a vigorous four-game win streak, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals return back home to face conference opponents, Anne Arundel Community College. The Cardinals would, unfortunately, fall in the final inning of a close game.

Both teams would start and end this game with the goal of making every point count, as neither team refused to let up and allow a run up until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cardinals strike first as Freshman outfielder, Mimi Troung (Western Tech) would walk effortlessly into home plate and give us the first run on the scoreboard. This would be thanks to Freshman shortstop, Morghan Gross (Howard High) hit her third triple of the season. Gross would then proceed to score before the end of the inning, giving the Cardinals a 2 – 0 lead. The Cardinals continued their shutout with the leadership of freshman pitcher, Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown High) nailing five strikeouts and no hits up until the fourth inning.

In a last-minute effort, Anne Arundel managed three runs with two outs on the board and down by two. In the end, the Cardinals played a strong game that should've been won. They'll surely enter game two of this doubleheader to prove they have what it takes to win.
