Bullpen Miscues Hands Monroe Opener

NORTH EAST, Md. - An excellent day at the dish was spoiled in game one, as Cecil dropped a 12-9 decision to the Monroe-Bronx Express on Thursday afteroon.

The Seahawks were firing on all cylinders early, plating five runs in the bottom of the first and four in the fourth. The offense was met with a stellar performance on the hill out of Nate Ewing, who allowed just three hits through four innings while chairing six Express batters. 

In what turned out to be a costly move, Cecil would put the game in the hands of its bullpen in the fifth. A pair of hit batters sanwiched a walk to start the inning, quickly loading the bases for Bronx. From there, the Seahawks surrendured nine runs on four walks, three hit batters, and three hits before finally retiring the Express.

After Cecil's offense was sat down in order during the bottom of the frame, Bronx pounced on the Seahawks 'pen once again with three more runs in the sixth. A scoreless bottom sixth and final frame closed the book on the first half of the doubleheader.

Cecil drops to 3-8 after the defeat.
