#2 Cougars Defeat #7 CCBC-Essex on the Road

The #2 Genesee Men's Lacrosse program picked up their second win of the 2020 season with a 14-8 road win over #7 CCBC-Essex on the road on Saturday, March 7th.

Freshman Jordan Boyenko got things started for Genesee with a goal early in the 1st quarter, but CCBC-Essex would answer back to tie the game at 1-1. Sophomore captain Austin Palmer gave Genesee the lead with his first goal of the day, followed by Andrew Forte's first goal of the year and another goal from Jordan Boyenko to make the score 4-1 Genesee at the end of the first quarter.

CCBC-Essex would score first in the 2nd quarter, but Spencer Nyhart and Palmer would answer back with goals to push the score to 6-2. The teams would quickly trade goals as CCBC-Essex netted one, followed by Forte's second of the day, to which CCBC-Essex responded with another goal to make the score 7-4, before Palmer scored again to give the Cougars a 8-4 halftime lead.

CCBC-Essex scored the first two goals of the 3rd quarter, to narrow Genesee's lead to 8-6, but Palmer would score his fourth goal of the day and Baden Boyenko would add his seventh goal of his 2020 season.

The Cougars took a 10-6 lead into the 4th quarter before CCBC-Essex scored again to narrow the Genesee lead to 3 goals. Forte added his third and final goal of the day, which was quickly followed by Tristian Engelhardt's first of the year to push the Genesee lead to 12-7. CCBC-Essex would add one more goal in the 4th, before Nyhart and Baden Boyenko added one more a piece, to give the Cougars a 14-8 victory.

Goalie Owen Anzalone allowed 8 goals and made 15 saves on 23 shots during his 60 minutes of work.

Palmer finished with 4 goals on 6 shots and 1 assist. Forte finished with 3 goals on 8 shots and 8 ground balls. Nyhart would finish with 2 goals, and Baden and Jordan Boyenko would finish their day with 2 goals each.

Genesee (2-0) is back on the road again on Wednesday, March 11, as they travel to Monroe CC with a showdown against the Tribunes at 4pm.
