Cardinals Lose a Close Game Versus Region 20 Leaders

On March 29th, The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals softball team hosted a doubleheader versus Region 20's first place leader, the Harford Community College fighting Owls. Both teams throughout this game displayed an immense amount of skill and kept each chance of winning down to a wire.

Harford would manage to add one run in the first inning and an additional two more in the second inning. After creating a three-run lead for themselves, the Cardinals were able to sustain a successful inning that earned them their sole run of the game. This was thanks to a great performance by freshman shortstop, Morhgan Gross (Howard High) who would start the inning off with a single and successful stolen bag at second. Gross would then sneak to third and eventually to homebase off a caught pop fly. Unfortunately, a ground out would halt the Cardinals newfound batting momentum. The remainder of this game would leave the Cardinals unable to repeat this scoring performance. Yet, the field stayed strong as Freshman pitcher, Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown high) with six strikeouts, including one at the top of the seventh inning that gave the team one last chance to win.

Now the Cardinals looked to maintain their strong field play as they would fall 1 – 3 and improve their batting performance in game two of their doubleheader.
