Baseball: Knights Sweep Colts, Extend Win Streak to Three

Baltimore County, Md. -- The Knights played at home Sunday for the first time this season and swept a double header from Orange County 9-6 and 9-3.

Starting pitchers Nicholas Berryman (Keswick Christian) and Rocco Marquez (Espacioa) threw four and two thirds and six innings, respectively.

Berryman gave up one earned run on five hits and Marquez two earned on four hits.

Three relievers in two games - Ronald Jones Jr (Parkville), Carson Coffey (Flagler Palm Coast) and Gage Shaffer (Franfort) - combined to allow just three earned runs on three hits over five and a third innings.

In game one, freshman Eli Lashley (Chapin) led the Knights charge at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. He also scored two runs. 

Sophomore Kale Hynes (Stuttgart) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Nolan Watson (Southern Regional), Shaffer and Nelson Laviosa (Ronale Reagan) added an RBI each.

In game two against Orange County, Shaffer led CCBC Essex with four RBIs on a 3-for-4 day that included a two-run homer in the sixth. He also scored two runs. 

Luke Nakich (Archbishop Curley) also contributed a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and two runs scored. Laviosa and Hynes added an RBI each.

While multiple Knights are hitting their stride at the plate, Shaffer is currently on another level. 

He is hitting .556 (10-for-18) with three homers and 14 RBIs over his last five games.

Overall, Shaffer has a slash line of .464/531/929 with four home runs and 17 RBIs. 

Lashley has also been swinging a hot bat, hitting safely in four of his last five, while batting .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles. He is hitting .316 for the season, with an on-base percentage of .500 and four RBIs.

The Knights (3-6, 1-2 Maryland Juco) head to east side and intra-campus rival CCBC Dundalk today in search of getting back to .500 in the conference.
