Wolfpack Sweeps Lorain to Open 2020 Season

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Westmoreland County Community College baseball team is off to a 2-0 start for the 2020 season after sweeping Lorain Community College 13-3 (5 innings) and 8-2 Suday afternoon in game held at Seton Hill University.

In the first game, the Wolfpack took advantage of eight walks and six Commodore errors to plate 13 runs on only seven hits in a 13-3 victory that was stopped due to the 10-run rule in the fifth inning. The big hits came in the fifth frame to clinch the win when Aaron Tumicki stroked a two-run double and Noah Sweeney, who was on base four times in the game, laced an RBI triple to bring in Tumicki for the final run. Sweeney was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and scored two runs, while Matt Wicker also had two hits and scored twice and Eli Ferres scored three runs.

Earning the win on the mound was Max Pici, who started and threw 4 1/3 innings and struck out five while giving up three runs on two hits. Sweeney collected the final two outs after moving in from right field.

The second game saw Lorain score one in the first inning, but Westmoreland answered with six-run outburst in the bottom of the frame. The scoring started with a two-run single by Sebastien Nelson and was followed by a bases-loaded, three-run double by Dylan Bubarth and capped by an RBI single from Joel Lonigro. Ray Chuba and Nolen Ferree would also collect RBIs in the victory.

That was more than enough support for the Wolfpack pitchers. Getting the start was Tanner Orndorff, who threw four innings and allowed one run on three hits. Tossing one inning each was Matt Henderson, Ferres and Dom Koch, with Henderson and Koch both striking out a pair in their inning of work.
