Cecil Sweeps Dundalk In Series For First Two Conference Wins

The Cecil College men's baseball team picked up two mid-week wins in a series against MD JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DII rival, CCBC Dundalk. With the two come from behind wins, the Seahawks improved to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in conference and region division play.

In Tuesday's game in Dundalk, Md., the Lions got out to a hot start offensively with six hits, including a two-run homer, in the opening three innings to help themselves to a 5-0 lead compared to the Seahawks' three up and three down innings. Cecil scored their first run in the top of the 4th inning of an RBI-single from Andrew Imbierowicz that brought Patrick O'Brien home, who previously reached on an error and advanced on a sacrifice fly from Michael Worthington.

The Lions answered with a single run of their own to make the score 6-1 after four complete innings. The Seahawks tallied two runs in the top of the 5th after a single from Reese Crounse, a double from Brendan Reilly, and a single from Kipp Hillson that brought both runners home. CCBC Dundalk, once again, answered with three runs to increase their lead to 9-3.

Colin Balthaser entered in relief for the Seahawks and held the Lion scoreless for the remainder of the game and sparked the Seahawks' comeback in the final innings. Cecil put up nine runs in the final three innings including a home run from Kipp Hillson to secure the 12-9 win in nine innings.

Andrew Imbierowicz (3 RBI) and Brendan Reilly each went 3-for-5 on the day, while Reese Crounse and Kipp Hillson (4 RBI) recorded two hits. Paul Layton tallied four strikeouts in the start while Colin Balthaser pitched four innings without a hit to pick up the win.

The second game of the series was much of the same with a slow start for the Seahawks, who trailed 5-2 after five and a half innings, and put together 12 runs in the final two innings of the day. Thursday's game was called due to darkness after seven complete innings.

Patrick O'Brien (3 RBI), Michael Worthington (3 RBI), Connor Dulin, and Reese Crounse all recorded multiple hits for the Seahawks while Andrew Imbierowicz and Dante DiSabatino recorded a single hit. Cameron Blankenship struck out three batters in the start while Brandon Snyder picked up the win for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks return to action at Brockell Field on the campus of Cecil College when they host County College of Morris for a non-conference double-header on Saturday, March 7. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in North East, Md.
