Volleyball Rallies Past Chesapeake

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team rallied from a first set loss to sink the visiting Skipjacks of Chesapeake College Tuesday evening at Jenkins Gym. The Riverhawks won the final three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-12, after dropping the first, 28-26.

Freshman Taliyah Johnson led the Riverhawks with 10 kills and four aces to go with four digs and two blocks on defense. Overall AACC recorded 18 aces in the match, getting five each from Karen Bautista Carmona and Tara Gabrielsen.

Setter Grace Lindemann recorded a season-high 84 assists to go with six digs. Sarah Jackson added six kills and three aces.

Johnson had back-to-back aces in the first set to go ahead, 14-13, followed by a block from Myani Davis to put the Riverhawks ahead by two. Chesapeake came back, forcing AACC to take a time out when trailing, 17-16. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set until Chesapeake edged the home team.

AACC took control of the match from then on, and despite a long rally to start the fourth set, used six aces and a solid receiving game to win out.

AACC (2-0) is back in action on Tuesday, September 10th in a 6 pm home match against Hagerstown.
