Raptors End Seahawks Six-Game Home Court Winning Streak

The Raptors of Montgomery College defeated the Seahawks in three sets on Tuesday to end their previous six-game win streak on their home court. Prior to Tuesday, Cecil College women's volleyball had not lost a single set at home in the 2019 season. With the loss to Montgomery, the Seahawks fell to 11-4 overall and 6-4 in the conference, where the Raptors still remain undefeated and claim the top spot in the rankings. The Seahawks currently sit in sixth place out of 12 volleyball teams in MD JUCO.

Cecil College was defeated by Montgomery College in three sets by scores of 15-25, 18-25, and 14-25. The Seahawks were able to keep the scores close early in each set, but were eventually outhit by Raptors' hitting  duo consisting of Anya Chepurnova and Daniella Zajac, who combined for 29 of the Raptors' 40 kills in the match, compared to the Seahawks' 20 kills. Freshman hitters Rebecca Holman and Tori Smith tallied seven kills each in the loss while sophomore setter Emily Maser totalled 17 assists and 3 kills. Holman also added a team-high seven digs, two blocks and two assists.

The Seahawks were unable to capitalize on their, usually accurate, serves with only two aces in the match and committing 10 service errors. Cecil's service aces were dished out by sophomore libero Kadi Davis and freshman defensive specialist Kendall Jackson

Other Cecil College kills came from freshman Danielle Mixon and sophomore Jaycie Coates. Kadi Davis finished the day with 6 digs and an additional assist.

The Seahawks' volleyball team looks to get back into the win column when they travel to face Delaware Technical Community College on Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m. In their last meeting on September 16, Cecil defeated Del. Tech. in straight sets.
