Watch Out Region 20: Cardinals Outperform Region 20 Leader

In game two of a doubleheader versus Harford Community College, the Cardinals would finally address a glaring issue of maintaining scoring opportunities to win a big game versus the current Region 20 conference leaders.

The Cardinals would enter this game continuing their trend of high level field play, to keep opposing leads low and hopes of winning well alive. Freshman pitcher, Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown high) would once again step up big for the field and post five strikeouts. Runs by Harford were kept at zero up until the fifth inning, this would allow the Cardinals to maintain a major four – run lead they built up at the beginning of the game.

Freshman shortstop, Morhgan Gross (Howard High) would put the first run on the board, with the assistance of an RBI from sophomore pitcher, Felicity Voss (Catonsville). Voss would eventually score herself and sophomore outfielder, Abigail Heagy (Eastern Tech) would sneak in the third run before the conclusion of the first inning. The Cardinals would come right back to add another run, as freshman third baseman, Tori Bache (Northeast High) would add another score on a board off a wild pitch. Heading into the fifth inning, the Owls looked to comeback, which was shut down by a game changing home run hit by Tori Bache.

This would seal this game and give the Cardinals a well-deserved win, that included a great performance by the Cardinals batters and field. As well as being the second team to defeat Harford this season and advance to 8 – 9. The Cardinals now have shown that they can compete with the best teams in the region.
