ARNOLD, MD – The visiting CCBC Essex women's soccer team scored in the fourth minute of the game and never trailed, dealing host Anne Arundel Community College a 5-1 loss Friday evening. Sophomore Hannah Hopkins scored for the Riverhawks.

Trailing 5-0 late in the second half, Hopkins potted a free kick by Erika Jackson in the 81st minute to put the Riverhawks on the board. Goalkeeper Sarah Ward made 10 saves in the game, including a pair of spectacular back-to-back stops at the cage in the 86th minute.

Amaya Purnell put the Knights on the board in the fourth minute scoring off her own rebound at the far post. Kara Dietrich scored her first of two on the night in the 17th minute, using a through ball from Josephine Eskey to set up a low cross-crease score.

With under a minute to play in the first half, Jackson fired in a laser of a direct kick, only to be denied by Essex starting keeper Sam Tornatore.

Mikayla Boyle scored her first of two goals less than a minute into the second half, blocking a clear attempt and redirecting it into the net. Dietrich followed five minutes later with a similar play, this time thwarting the Riverhawks' goalkeeper's clear attempt. Boyle capped the Knights' scoring in the 64th minute with an unassisted tally.

Peyton Apruzzese surrendered the lone goal for the Knights, allowing it on the only shot she faces in 34 minutes of action. Tornatore earned the win.

AACC travels to Cecil for a 5 pm game on Tuesday, September 10, before returning home to host College of Southern Maryland at 5 pm Thursday.
