Baseball Snaps Losing Streak With Two Game Sweep Over Allegany

Cecil College baseball snapped their lengthy losing streak when they defeated the Trojans of Allegany College of Maryland in both games of Sunday's double header. With the two conference and region division wins, the Seahawks improved to 4-23-1 overall and 3-13 in the MD JUCO standings, making a one spot jump over College of Southern Maryland.

Sophomore pitcher Zachary Strong started on the mound for the first game, striking out Allegany's first two batters, giving up a double, and forcing the fourth batter to line out to the Jaily Paredes in right field for a scoreless first inning. Strong went on to pitch a complete game shutout, improving his starting record to 2-2 on the year. Strong gave up zero runs on five hits, one walk, and struck out seven batters in his second complete game performance this season.

The Seahawks jump started their offense in the bottom of the third inning when Carlos Roman-Delgado reached first on a catchers' interference call followed by a base hit from Hector Laguer, advancing Roman-Delgado to third. Andrew Imbierowicz tripled to left field on the next play bringing in the Seahawks' first two runs and then crossed the plate on an error by the Trojans' shortstop to extend the lead to 3-0 after three complete innings.

Joseph Munoz and Tyler Robinson led off the bottom of the fourth each with a single. An RBI from Soloman Harris brought Munoz home for the Seahawks' fourth score. After a scoreless fifth inning, Carlos Roman-Delgado led off with a home run over the left field fence to secure the 5-0 victory.

Freshman lefty pitcher Hunter Wiggins made is debut in game two of the afternoon, pitching 6.2 innings and let up one run on five hits while striking out four batters. Kipp Hillson entered the game to get the last out and tallied a save.

Sophomore first basemen Tyler Robinson recorded his second hit of the day in the bottom of the second with an RBI-double to give the Seahawks an early lead. After letting up the lone run of the day in the top of the 3rd, Cecil answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-triple from Kipp Hillson, bringing Shawn Dulin and Jaily Paredes across the plate. Hillson later scored off another Trojans' error.

The Seahawks return to action when they travel to face the Knights of CCBC Essex for a single game on Tuesday, April 16. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
