Men's Basketball Opens Season with Split at CCBC Dundalk Mixer

The no. 4-ranked Cecil College men's basketball team opened their 2019-2020 season with a split at the annual CCBC Dundalk Mixer for the second year in a row. The Seahawks' Friday night victory over Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) also marked their first win of the season prior. Men's basketball has returned three key players from last season including last year's co-leading scorer, Jacob Falko. Falko was also named all-conference, all-region, and to the all-tournament team in the NJCAA DII national tournament. George Davey, starting forward, and the Seahawks most effective three-point shooter, McKale Williams, also join Falko as sophomore members of the squad.

Final scores at the CCBC Dundalk Mixer included a 66-57 win over Bryant & Stratton and a tough 75-72 loss to Mt. Zion Prep. Cecil shot and impressive 41.2% from the floor and from beyond the arc in their victory over the Bobcats, including three of the Seahawks starters in double-digit points. Jacob Falko led the way with 23 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals followed by freshman forward Justin Cohen with 20 points. Cohen also added four defensive rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Diere Hodges tallied 15 points and Julius Cobb grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Seahawks to their first victory.

In a close match with Mt. Zion Prep, the Seahawks, once again, shot over 40% from the floor and from three-point range, but were plagued by missed free throws in the loss. Cecil College ended the match by going 10-19 (52.6%) from the free throw line. Freshman guard O'Dell Dickerson sparked Seahawks' scoring with 20 points including shooting 70% from the floor and going 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Jacob Falko gave another solid performance with 16 points and three assist while McKale Williams added 10 points and two steals of his own.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, November 6 when they travel to face non-conference and non-region opponent, Delaware Technical Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Delaware Tech's Stanton campus.
