Lady Commodores Fight Hard but Come up Short in Weekend Tournament

After playing two four year schools in the previous weekend, Coach Granito felt very good headed into the weekend play at Westmoreland. In game one against Anne Arundel, the Lady Commodores came out the gates very hot controlling the first half. Leading the way for the team and continuing her hot shooting was second year player Madi Bonner who had 16 points. Chipping in on the scoring was Rachel Downing who had 11 of her own. Up as many as 14 points in the first half, LCCC didn't see the same shots falling in the second half as they went ice cold in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

"We got good shots in the 2nd half but they just didn't go down for us. First half things just fell but we went ice cold to finish the game" said Coach Granito. In the second half, LCCC only scored 19 points being outscored 35-19 and was only able to make 3 field goals. In the game, LCCC was 12-50 from the field shooting just 24% while Anne Arundel shot well, shooting 45%. With their shots not falling in the 2nd half, the Lady Commodores loss 56-45 in game one.

Much like Friday, LCCC was in another tight battle Saturday morning against Lehigh Carbon as LCCC dropped another close one 55-48. In this close battle, neither team was able to get a lead past 8 points. Madi Bonner was one of the top scorers for her team putting up 12 points along with Sami Shaw and Heather Smyth who both had 12 of their own.

With each possession important for both teams, it was the rebounding of LCCC that kept them in the game as Smyth had 8 rebounds and Sarah Kyser had 7 of her own. As a team, LCCC improved in rebounding as they racked up 43 total rebounds. "In the earlier games we had some big problems so we focused a lot in the second game on cleaning that up and rebounding was one of them. We were able to improve on rebounding and our shooting from the field." After shooting poorly in the first game, LCCC shot 44% from the field but lost some key points at the free throw line as the team only shot 5 of 18.
