Knights Emerge Triumphant over Cayuga

ROSEDALE, MD – In thrilling fashion, CCBC Essex secured a 6-5 walk-off victory over Cayuga Community College on Saturday at The Kingdom. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Sophomore Billy Hartman delivered the game-winning RBI single, sending the Knights to victory.

Back-and-Forth Battle

Cayuga struck first in the top of the first inning when Recio doubled, scoring a run. However, Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL) responded in the bottom half, ripping a double down the left-field line to tie the game at 1-1.

CCBC Essex took the lead in the second, as Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY) grounded out to bring home a run, giving the Knights a 2-1 edge.

Cayuga answered in the fifth inning, plating four runs to take a 5-4 lead.

  • Laird doubled, scoring one.
  • Demilio followed with a two-run double.
  • Allison capped off the rally with an RBI single.

Dramatic Finish in the Seventh

Down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Cook led off with a double to center field. After a sacrifice bunt by Sophomore Eduardo Zayas (Cidra, PR), Billy Hartman came off the bench and delivered a clutch single into the right-center gap to win the game for the Knights.

Pitching Performances

  • Freshman Danner Swift made his first collegiate start for CCBC Essex, throwing four innings while allowing two hits and one unearned run, striking out four and walking two.
  • Freshman Diego Garcia (2-0) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out three and walking three.
  • Knoll started for Cayuga, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits over 3.1 innings, striking out two and walking six.

Offensive Highlights

  • Cook and Perez each went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for CCBC Essex.
  • The Knights showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks, with Laurin Guerra Guzman and Rafael Castillo leading the team with two each.
  • Cayuga's Demilio led their offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Laird went 2-for-3 to pace their hitters.
