Muskegon Community College Jayhawks Baseball Grind Out Win In Tussle With Westmoreland County Community College
The Jayhawks and Westmoreland County CC battled in a back-and-forth game on Wednesday, but the Jayhawks ultimately came out on top with an 8-6 victory. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the sixth when Brett Hunter lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in the go-ahead run.
Brock Thornton put the Jayhawks on the board early with a solo home run to left in the first, giving them a 2-1 lead. Christian Kennedy's RBI single down the right-field line tied the game at three in the second.
In the third, Bryce Luevano doubled to drive in a run, breaking the tie, and Aidan Buchberger followed with a fielder's choice RBI to extend the lead to 5-3. Lawson Doyle then came through in the fourth with a two-run single, putting the Jayhawks ahead 7-6.
Hunter's sacrifice fly and a Dayton Thomas RBI single in the sixth provided insurance runs.
Javanni Johnson got the start for the Jayhawks, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings while striking out six and walking two. Noah Morgan closed out the game with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one without allowing a hit.
The Jayhawks collected 12 hits, with Ryne Christensen leading the way, going 3-for-4. Thornton and Doyle each drove in two runs, while Thomas and Kennedy added multiple hits to fuel the offense.

The Jayhawks struggled to keep pace with Rays Collegiate, falling 7-1 on Wednesday.
Gabe Shooltz put the Jayhawks on the board in the second inning with an RBI triple.

Nick Wilson got the start for the Jayhawks, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits over one inning while striking out two and walking one.
Mehdi Ladjel and Luevano each recorded a hit, and the Jayhawks turned a double play in the game.

The Jayhawks struggled to keep pace with the Elgin CC Spartans, falling 10-1 on Thursday.
Aidan Buchberger hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the fifth, accounting for the Jayhawks' only run.
Brett Hunter pitched three innings of relief, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two and walking two. Sean Shooltz started the game, giving up four hits and five runs (one earned) over two innings, with one strikeout and one walk.
Ryne Christensen and Buchberger each recorded two hits, with Buchberger leading the team with one RBI. He went 2-for-3 on the day. The Jayhawks also turned a double play in the game.
