Catamounts drop a pair to open 2020 season.

Sumter, SC- Potomac State was unable to hold on to a two-run lead in the sixth inning and ultimately was walked off by an RBI single from Da'Avion Sumpter in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 win for USC Sumter.

Hayden Almond lead Potomac State with three hits including a 2-run double.  Five other Catamounts delivered a hit as PSC outhit Sumter 8-7.   Graham Brown drove in the other run with an RBI single.

Potomac State starter Brandon Schaeffer went 5 2/3 innings, striking out three and allowed three runs, one of which was earned.

He was relived by Ashton Staubbs, who pitched well, but was saddled with the loss.  The freshman struck out five and walked two in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Almond's two-run double gave PSC a 2-1 lead in the third, was followed by an RBI single from Graham Brown

With PSC leading 3-2 in the sixth, the Fire Ants took advantage of a error to begin the inning.  After a strike out and a pop out, Xavier Cumbee delivered a double bring them within one.  Two batters later Noah Fuchs doubled to tie the game at 3 apiece

The game remained tied until the bottom of when with one out Fuchs was hit by a pitch, after the Fire Ants loaded the bases, Sumpter delivered the game winner

In game two, four Potomac State errors led to three unearned runs as Walters State rolled to a 9-3 win.  The Senators were led at the plate from Seth Gardner who drove in two runs with a pair of hits, a sacrifice bunt and a walk.

WSCC starter Nolan Letzgus struck out eight PSC hitters in five innings, he was relived by Caleb Pearson who struck out another three in two innings of work.

Tyler Bradford took the loss for Potomac State, working 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs, walking three and striking out four.

Dale Houser and Brown led PSC with two hits apiece.  Devon Neal, Josh Hoffman and Trevor Thomas each collected an RBI for the Catamounts.

Potomac State will right back in action against Walters State on Sunday for a 10:00 a.m. start.
