Men's Soccer Earns #4 Seed in Region XX Tournament

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team has earned the fourth seed in the Region XX/Appalachian District Division III Championships, it was announced late Wednesday. The Riverhawks, who finished with a 2-1 in-region divisional record, will host Northern Virginia (1-3) in an 11 am play-in game on Saturday, October 26th.

Top seed Howard CC was undefeated in divisional in-region games at 3-0, while Prince George's CC finished as the second seed at 2-1 after an overtime victory over AACC Wednesday evening. Oxford Emory, who joins from Region 17, posted an 8-3-1 overall record.

The winner of Saturday's play-in game will face top seed Howard in the semifinals at AACC on Friday, November 1st at 2:30 pm. No. 2 Prince George's will take on No. 3 Emory Oxford in the second semifinal November 1st at 5 pm. The semifinal winners will square off in the championship game at AACC on November 2nd at 2 pm.

Sophomore Alex Calogero leads the Riverhawks offense with six goals, including four game-winners. He potted the game-winner in AACC's regular-season meeting with NOVA on October 10th. Sophomore Angel Calderon and freshmen Jack Castle and Luke Hanno have all added four goals each, with Calderon recording AACC's lone penalty kick score of the season.

Freshman Brenden LeMaster comes into the tournament with a 6-5-1 record. His .809 save percentage ranks 22nd in the country and second in Region XX.  He boasts a 1.39 GAA, good for third in the region and 28th nationally.

AACC and NOVA met in last year's semifinals, where the Riverhawks prevailed, 5-3. The two teams previously met in the Region XX tournament first round in 2014, with AACC winning, 1-0.
