Second Half Comeback Leads to Second Straight Cardinal Victory

The CCBC Catonsville Women's basketball team took on Monroe College – Bronx last Sunday night, coming out on top 77-66.

After falling behind early in the game, the Cardinal's fought back and retook the lead in the third quarter, resulting in a win by 11 points for the Cardinals

Monroe College – Bronx started off strong, creating a 15 point lead over the Cardinals in the first quarter. The Cardinals would find their rhythm in the second quarter, reducing the deficit to 1 entering the half trailing 28-27. Both teams struggled with their shooting in the first half, resulting in a low scoring half for both teams.

The second half would be a much different offensively for both teams. Both teams offenses found their stride after the half, with the Cardinals offense having the upper hand after the third quarter behind a 21 point quarter to take the lead 48-44. The Cardinals offense would continue to stay hot in the fourth quarter behind four double-digit point performances from the Cardinals. The Cardinals would open the scoring to take an 11-point lead to win the game 77-66.

The Cardinals leading scorer was Amaree McKnight (National Christian Academy) with 22 points for the second consecutive game. Ahna Thomas (Bowie High School) would record a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals. Lauryn Russell (Pallotti High School) would end the night with 15 points and Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point High School) would end the night with 16 points, going 6-6 from the free throw line.

The Cardinals are now 8-5, with their next game being on the road against Prince George's Community College on Wednesday January 25 at 5pm.
