Lady Hawks open season with two wins over Louisburg College, NC

Louisburg, NC., August 19, 2023 - Hagerstown Community College Women's Soccer traveled to Louisburg, NC on Saturday, August 19th for the 2023 season opener. The match was one of two out of conference games played against the Hurricanes, with the second game to follow on Sunday afternoon. In Saturday's match, Alexis Linetty (2) scored first for the Hawks on an assist by Kayda Shives (4) at the twenty minute mark. In the second half, Serenity Anderson (21) scored on an assist from Rachel Haymes (1) at the fifty-five minute mark, and Kadenn Martin (34) scored the final goal, assisted by Kirstin Eichelberger (10) to seal the 3-0 win for Hagerstown. "This was a great game and the team playing as a unit was a huge part of this win. I am so excited for the players who worked hard for one another making it possible to achieve the first win of the season," commented Coach Clifton Williams.

In game two on Sunday, Hagerstown resumed Saturday's offensive pressure on the Hurricanes with Kadenn Martin (34) scoring first in the ninth minute, on an assist by Kayda Shives (4). Alexis Linetty (2) scored unassisted in the thirteenth minute, and Shives scored on an assist by Braelynn Whetsell (18) at sixteen minutes. The Hurricanes responded with a goal by Selah Hampton (9), assisted by Morgan Jones (12), at the twenty-one minute mark, however Martin was on a roll, scoring two more goals, one unassisted at the 26 minute mark, and another off of an assist by Shives in the fortieth minute, giving the Hawks a 5-1 lead at the half. Jones scored again for the Hurricanes on an assist by Cora Watkins (11) at forty-six minutes. Hagerstown's solid defensive play allowed the offense to overwhelm Louisburg, and Martin scored her 4th goal assisted by Shives at sixty minutes and Shives scored her second goal on an assist by Whetsell at seventy-eight minutes. Jones scored a third unassisted goal for Louisburg at the eighty minute mark, before the Hawks ran out the clock for a final score of 7-3 and the win. "The Hawks played tough today against the Lady Hurricanes, and even though we were pushed to the limit, we never gave up on finishing the game," stated Coach Williams. "This is a great start for the HCC Women's Soccer program."
