Catonsville Edges Women's Basketball

CATONSVILLE, MD – Despite a career-high 30 points from freshman Sydney Woodland, the Anne Arundel Community College women's basketball team was edged by CCBC Catonsville, 85-81, on the road Friday evening. Woodland scored half of her points in the second quarter when AACC outscored the Cardinals, 29-17.

Woodland's career high night was highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort from beyond the arc. She also dished a team-high three assists. Autumn Foster-Fields added a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sarah Healy recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

CCBC jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held on for a 27-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Riverhawks came roaring back in the second, seeing Woodland score 11 during a 17-6 run over the last five minutes of the half to hold a 45-44 lead headed into halftime.

The game remained close in the third quarter with three lead changes and three ties, seeing Catonsville build a seven-point lead to close the frame leading 68-61.

The Cardinals increased their lead early in the fourth to nine points before AACC used a 7-0 run to get with two points at 70-68. Ruth Marshall knotted the game at 74-all with just over five minutes to play. A Woodland three-pointer with a little over thraee minutes to play put the Riverhawks ahead, 79-76, but Catonsville responded with a three-point play to knot the game again. Foster-Fields gave the Riverhawks an 81-79 lead with under two minutes left, but a pair of late Catonsville layups turned the game in favor of the Cardinals.

The game was primarily played down low with AACC scoring 46 points in the paint and Catonsville netting 44 there. The Cardinals benefitted from 26 AACC turnovers, finding 33 points off the miscues.

AACC is back in action at home Monday in a 6 pm rescheduled game against Harford Community College.
