LCCC Lady Commodores Suffer Westmoreland Tournament Loss to Anne Arundel CC, 70-57

November 10, 2017 – The Lorain County Community College women's basketball team led at halftime but lost to Anne Arundel CC, 70-57, in the opening game of the Westmoreland CC Tournament.

LCCC took a one-point lead at halftime thanks largely to three, three-point shots in the final minutes of the half by freshman guard Hannah Oehlstrom on her way to a team-high 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including five three-pointers.  The team's downfall was that it shot a season-low 22 percent on 20-of-90 shots.  Sophomore forward Angel Blakely was the only other double-figure scorer for the Lady Commodores with 19 points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Sophomore forward Sammie Shaw had a big game with six points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block.

"We had a poor shooting day," Head Coach Vince Granito offered.  "I thought we would warm up in the second half, but the poor shooting continued and they (Anne Arundel CC) got a lot of points in transition," Granito added.

LCCC trailed by 10 after three quarters but rallied to within four points in the fourth quarter before AACC made its final run.  "The game was closer than the final score indicated, " Granito pointed out.  "The largest lead was the final score.

LCCC is now 2-2 this season and will play tomorrow's tournament game against Lehigh CC at 10 a.m.  AACC improved to 2-1.
