Hawks Sweep Saturday Doubleheader Against Montgomery

 Hagerstown Community College softball (3-9) hosted the Montgomery College Raptors (4-11) in a doubleheader at HCC on Saturday, April 8th.

In game one, Adrianna Beeler (25), out of Greencastle-Antrim High School, pitched a no-hitter, facing 21 batters, striking out five, and hit a home run for the Hawks, as Hagerstown got onto the scoreboard early, scoring five runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third inning. Maddie Heuer (8), out of Boonsboro High School, was three for three with three runs scored and Payton Kendall (10), out of Forbes Road High School had three RBIs in the five inning opener for the Hawks.

Game two was a battle. After two innings, Montgomery lead 2 to 1, and looked as though they were pulling away, going up 4-1 in the fifth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks got an RBI triple from Maddie Heuer (8), out of Boonsboro High School, to close the gap, 4-3. The Hawks took the lead 5-4 on an RBI single by Kendall, then gave up an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning as Montgomery tied the game 5–5. 

In extra innings, following ITB rules and a placed a runner on second base, Montgomery scored on a leadoff hit in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, Peyton Sheffler (2), out of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing the ITB placed runner to third and Kendall hit a hard line drive to right field to score the tying run. Sydra Royer (4), out of Greencastle-Antrim High School, closed it out with a 2-run walk off home run to win game two, 8-6, for the sweep.
