DUNDALK, MD - It would appear the Snow Miser from The Year Without a Santa Claus and Elsa from Frozen have combined forces to get the Lions' 2019 baseball season off to a slow and rocky start.
The Lions had scheduled a three-day, four-game sojourn to Lancaster, S.C. February 22-24, but wet and wintery weather conditions cancelled the road trip.
A cold and blustery February 27 saw the Lions lose their home opener to the Camden County College Cougars (Blackwood, N.J.).
The 11-6 loss saw Ivan Martinez (Clifton) get a HR, an RBI, and a SB; Ethan Alioto (Catonsville) get a 2B; Travis Buckmon (Abraham Lincoln) get a 2B and an RBI; Bryant Gutierrez (Abraham Lincoln) 2 RBIs; Kaleb Whitlock (Bowie) 2 RBIs and a SB; and Mateo Gil (Grand Street Campus), Chase Uhlich (Arundel), and Andy Duarte (Grand Street Campus) a SB each.
Due to winter weather and poor field conditions, it would be the only game the Lions have gotten in so far.
The March 2 doubleheader at Montgomery College (Germantown, Md.) was postponed.
The March 3 home doubleheader against Bergen Community College (Paramus, N.J.) was cancelled.
The March 5 home game against Cecil College (North East, Md.) has been postponed.
The March 6 game at Stevenson University (Stevenson, Md.) has been cancelled.
Hopefully the baseball weather fates will smile upon the Lions on Thursday March 7 as they travel to sibling campus CCBC Catonsville (Catonsville, Md.) The Cardinals are currently 2-5, coming off a seven-game road trip to Florida and a four-game stretch of canceled or postponed games.
