Potomac State Baseball rebounds for split in South Carolina

For the second consecutive day the Potomac State Baseball team dusted itself off after dropping the opening game and rebounded for a win in the nightcap to salvage the day.

After falling to Florence Darlington Tech 7-1 in the opener, the Catamounts answered the call against Monroe College with a 10-4 win.

Potomac State fell behind in the 1st inning when Monroe's Joseph Caba drove in a pair of runs with a single.

PSC answered in the second Preston Taylor's leadoff single was followed by three straight walks by Monroe's starter to cut the lead to 2-1.   After a pair of outs Dale Houser drilled a triple that scored all three runners to make the score 4-2. 

Monroe tied the game in the bottom of the second on Joan Sosa's two-run home run.

The Catamounts took the lead again in the third on a run scoring single from Trevor Thomas and a fielder's choice making the score 6-4.

A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Josh Hoffman added two more runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 8-4. 

An RBI double from Hayden Almond in the sixth and an RBI single from Zack Whitacre finshed the scoring at 10-4.

Starter Jonathon Money worked the first 3 1/3 innings striking out five, and Colton Matthews worked the final 3 2/3 innings throwing scoreless baseball to pick up the win.


In the opener, the Stingers blew open a one-run game with five runs over the final two frames with the big blow being a three-run home run from Charlie Corum, who finished with four runs batted in.

FDT held the Catamount hitters in check for the second straight day, allowing just four singles.

Potomac State, (2-5) will play their home opener on Wednesday with a single game at 2pm against Garrett College.
