Softball Earns a Split with Cecil

Friday afternoon saw the Westmoreland County Community College softball team play their first two NJCAA Division II softball games in program history, as Westmoreland traveled to Cecil College for a doubleheader.

Game one saw Westmoreland jump out to a five run lead after the top of the first. Cecil answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. The Wolfpack was shut down in the third and fourth innings, while Cecil went on to score in both frames. The final would go on to be Cecil 19 and Westmoreland 11.

Kaidens Thomas and Brooklyn Furman both collected three hits in game one, Thomas drove in 3 runs and Furman 1. Alexis Jellison, Sydney Matijevic, and Abigail Kratochvil each had 2 hits. Matijevic also drove in 3 runs. Rounding out the offense was Hayden Leighty and Skylar Schaefer with a hit a piece.

Thomas was also on the mound for game one, going 3 innings allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 3. She was followed by Matijevic who went 1 inning allowing 6 earned runs.

Game two saw Westmoreland bust out again in the first inning, putting up 4 runs in the top of the first, and the game ending on a rundaowm play to secure Westmoreland's first win of the season 11 to 10.  

In game 2 Skylar Schaefer had 3 hits, driving in 2 runs, Matijevic had 2 hits and 2 RBI's as well. Alexis Jellison had 2 hits, Chloe Trice with 2 hits and Ruby Rojas with a hit as well. On the bases Westmoreland stole 6 bases in game 2, 11 in the two games combined.  Jellison also took to the mound for game two allowing 11 hits and only 2 earned runs in her 6 innings of work, and securing her first win of the season.

Next up for the Wolfpack, they will return home on Monday afternoon to play host to the College of Southern Maryland at 2 PM.
