Strong Defensive Outing Leads To A Big Win Over Butler County for Women’s Basketball

Prince George's Community College's women's basketball returned to Novak Field House Saturday afternoon, December 7^th to take on Butler County Community College in a NJCAA Region Twenty showdown. Coming off of a much needed win over Howard Community College earlier in the week, the Owls controlled the second half of play to come out on top against Butler County 86-48. With the win the Owls improve to 6-4 on the season while Butler County falls to 1-9.

The first period of play was back and forth with both squads trading baskets but the Owls were able to score three quick points in the last 8 seconds of the period to lead 18-15 and never looked back. Prince George's would control the tempo for the remaining 30 minutes of play, outscoring the Pioneers 68-33 in dominant fashion to close out the contest and earn their second straight win. The Owls held Butler County under 10 points in both the second and fourth periods while forcing the Pioneers to shoot under 27 percent from the floor over the course of the game.

The Owls transition game was the difference maker in the matchup, causing Butler County to turn the ball over 52 times which the Owls converted into 49 points. Freshman guard DaJine'e Gatling recorded a double-double (12 pts, 10 rbs) in the victory while three other Owls had a double digit scoring performance. Fellow freshman Kori People led the way for Prince George's with 22.

The Owls have now won two straight after a four game skid which halted their hot 4-0 start to the season. Currently two games above .500 on the year, the Owls have gained some positive momentum before they travel to Arnold, MD to take on Anne Arundel's Riverhawks Saturday, December 14^th.
