CCBC Essex Secures Sweep.

LARGO, MD – CCBC Essex completed the sweep of their Region 20 doubleheader against Prince George's Community College (PGCC) with a thrilling 9-6 comeback victory in Game 2 on Saturday. Despite trailing by four runs, the Knights rallied in the seventh inning, delivering a seven-run explosion to seal their fourth straight win.

CCBC Essex struck first in the opening inning when Sophomore Rafael Castillo (Queens, NY) doubled, driving in a run. However, PGCC responded in the bottom of the second, taking a 2-1 lead after a two-run single by Rodriguez.

In the third, Castillo showcased his power, launching a solo home run to center field to tie the game at 2-2. PGCC regained the lead in the fourth, going up 3-2 after a double by Nicholas.

The game remained tight until the seventh-inning fireworks from CCBC Essex. Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL) delivered the game-changing moment with a pinch-hit, three-run homer to left field, capping off a seven-run rally that secured the 9-6 comeback victory.

On the Mound:

  • Sophomore Mitchell Bayles (Richmond, VA) got the start, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing five runs on six hits, striking out nine but battling seven walks.
  • Freshman Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL) came in for relief and earned his first collegiate win.
  • PGCC's Robinette threw six innings, surrendering 10 hits and five runs (four earned).

At the Plate:

  • CCBC Essex racked up 12 hits, with Castillo and Sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY) each collecting two.
  • The Knights played flawless defense, committing zero errors.
  • For PGCC, Rodriguez drove in two runs, while Nicholas and Gornell tallied two hits each.

With the win, CCBC Essex extends their winning streak to four games. They return home on Sunday to face Westmoreland CCC in a key conference series.
