A.J. Perry Lifts the Cardinals to a Doubleheader Sweep against Cecil College

Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals swept the Cecil College Seahawks in dominating fashion on Wednesday. Game 1 ended after just five innings with Catonsville winning 10-0. Game 2 was a lot closer, but the Cardinals squeaked out a close win by a score of 2-1.

Game 1

Catonsville got off to a fast start in Game 1, posting seven runs in the first two innings. They jumped all over Seahawks starter Hunter Sipel, who lasted just two innings while being charged with all seven runs. Catonsville added two more in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth, ending the game at 10-0.

The Cardinals received contributions throughout their lineup, with all seven hits coming from different players. They also drew 10 walks and had numerous timely hits with runners in scoring position. Tyler Sankovich led the way for Catonsville, going 1-2 with a walk and three RBIs, while Joel Tapia Melo reached base four times, going 1-1 with three walks.

Coby Vallee spun a gem for Catonsville, scattering seven baserunners in five shutout innings. He struck out just one batter, but he got quick outs and was extremely pitch efficient. It was Vallee's third win of the season and his first scoreless outing.

Game 2

After a blowout in Game 1, Game 2 went down to the wire. Both starting pitchers were fantastic, holding the opposing offenses in check. A.J Palumbo was great for Catonsville, throwing six innings allowing just one run while striking out five batters. Colin Shea matched Palumbo, allowing just one run in five innings as well.

The scoring didn't start until the sixth inning when Catonsville failed to turn a double play leading to the first run of the game. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, A.J Perry came to the plate as a pinch hitter with one runner on base. He came through for the Cardinals with a two-run homerun, giving them the lead going into the bottom of the seventh. Bryson Prietz came on for the Cardinals and shut the door, recording a 1-2-3 seventh inning. It was his first save of the season.
