Keyser, W.Va. – The Potomac State College women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season Monday afternoon in convincing fashion, topping Butler County Community College 90-47 at Lough Gymnasium.
The hot starting Catamounts held a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. Danijah Allen converted a layup for a 23-13 lead to start the second quarter. Following a Butler missed field goal attempt PSC ripped off 10 consecutive points capped by a Marliegh Bays jumper at the 6:21 mark. The game was out of the reach of BCCC.
Allen led the Catamounts with 27 points connecting on 11 of 17 field goal attempts (2 of 6 three-pointers) and 3 for 3 at the charity stripe. She also collected a team high 6 rebounds. Keristin Lucas and Bays also reached double figures for PSC with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Defensively Potomac State surrendered only 10 second quarter points for a 47-23 halftime lead and held Butler to 10 points again in the third quarter to lead 72-33 entering the final stanza.
Potomac State shot 50 percent from the floor converting 37 of 74 field goal attempts while holding Butler to a 25.5 field goal percentage on 14 of 55 shooting.
Butler's Alexis Barnahrt led the Pioneers in scoring with 15 points. Casey Kretzer had 13 points and a game high 7 rebounds and Michaela Roth finished with 13 points.
The Catamounts now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference host Anne Arundel Community College Friday at 5 p.m. at Lough Gymnasium.
