Lady Skipjacks Dominate Hagerstown In 105-41 Win

Chesapeake College's women's basketball returned to Skipjack Arena on Friday afternoon, January 24th to host Hagerstown Community College in a Maryland JUCO clash. The Skipjacks jumped out quickly and never slowed down, leading for the entirety of the game as they racked up over 100 points for the third time this season in a dominant 105-41 victory. The win lifts the Skipjacks to 14-3 overall, including 7-1 in Maryland JUCO play. Hagerstown falls to 4-10, 1-6 MD JUCO.

The first period was as lopsided as could be with the Skipjacks outscoring the Hawks 32-6 while Chesapeake shot just under 50% from the floor. Hagerstown was able to produce more on the offensive side of the ball in the second period but Chesapeake's potent offensive attack continued as the Skipjacks again outscored the Hawks, 27-18 as they built a 59-24 halftime lead. All ten players had recorded at least a basket by the break with sophomore guard Brooke Worrell leading the way with 15 points, all of which came in the second period.

The Skipjacks continued their elite defensive play in the final two periods, holding the Hawks to only 17 points over the final twenty minutes while pouring in 46 themselves as they capped off a huge 105-41 win. Chesapeake recorded a season-high 79 total rebounds in the game, 35 of which came on the offensive side of the ball. Five different Skipjacks scored in double figures including three players who recorded double-doubles. Brittiney Seymour (10 pts, 10 rebs) and Brooke Worrell (17 pts, 15 rebs) both recorded a double-double. Freshman guard Jayla Irvin led all players with 19 points and 12 rebounds while coming off the bench as part of her first collegiate double-double.

Up next for the Skipjacks is an away contest at CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday, January 28th where Chesapeake will look to continue their dominance over Maryland JUCO opponents.
