Cardinals Lose Close Game to Harford Community College 70-65

On February 21, the Cardinals women's basketball team took on Harford Community College, losing 70-65.

This marks the Cardinals seventh loss in a row. Strong performances from Destiny Perry (Sparrows Point High School) and Kayla Cabbagestalk (Chesapeake High School) were not enough for the Cardinals to come out on top.

In the first quarter, the Cardinals broke the scoring open with a layup from Destiny Perry with eight minutes left in the quarter. Another Destiny Perry layup saw the Cardinals gain a six-point lead with two and a half minutes left to play in the quarter. The Cardinals would end the first quarter with a 14-12 lead.

In the second quarter, both teams would trade blows in the opening minutes. Two Destiny Perry free throws would see the Cardinals take a five-point lead with eight minutes left in the half. However, the Cardinals would lose the lead with two and a half minutes left, and would go into the break down six, 38-32.

In the third quarter, the Cardinals came out strong, scoring four points within the opening minute thanks to Amaree McKnight (National Christian Academy), dropping the deficit to two-points. For the rest of the quarter, the Cardinals would struggle on both sides of the ball, seeing themselves go down by 13 to end the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would bring the deficit to 10 with just over eight minutes to go. The Cardinals defense would keep the Fighting Owls from scoring for the last five minutes of the half. Unfortunately, their comeback efforts would fall short, as the Cardinals would lose 70-65.

The Cardinals leading scorer was Destiny Perry, who had a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Kayla Cabbagestalk finished with 19 points, going 7-10 from the free throw line.

The Cardinals are now 9-12.
