Seahawks Handed Back-to-Back Conference Losses from Cougars and Fighting Owls

After starting their season 4-0 with four sweeps, including one over MD JUCO and NJCAA Region XX DII rival, Collegeof Southern Maryland, the Cecil College volleyball team was handed back-to-back losses by conference opponents. Their shut out loss to the Cougars of Frederick Community College was their first loss against another Region XX DII opponent. The Seahawks fell to 4-2 overall, 1-2 in the conference, and 1-1 in their region division.

The Seahawks got out to a slow start in Tuesday's match at Frederick, only putting up 10 points compared to the Cougars' 25 in the first set. Unable to rebound from their first set loss, the Cougars completed the sweep with the next two set scores of 23-25 and 19-25. Rebecca Holman accounted for 10 of the Seahawks' 13 kills while the others came from Emily Maser, Danielle Mixon, and Jaycie Coates. Maser also added 11 assists, 12 digs and two blocks while sophomore libero Kadi Davis tallied 17 digs.

Volleyball was handed their second loss of the week, in four sets, when they traveled to Harford Community College on Thursday, September 12. The Fighting Owls topped the Seahawks by scores of 14-25, 26-24, 21-25, and 23-25. Once again, Rebecca Holman led the Seahawks in kills with 14 and 11 digs, followed closely behind by Tori Smith with 10 kills. Holman has now lead the team in kills in all six matches and currently leads the conference in kills with a total of 72 and kills per set with 3.79. Sophomore setter Emily Maser tallied 32 assists, trailing her career-high by one, while also serving up four aces. Maser currently occupies the 2nd spot in assists per set in MD JUCO. Kadi Davis, who is currently second in the conference in digs per set, finished the day with 33 digs and three service aces.

Cecil College women's volleyball is back in action on their home court on Monday, September 16 when they host non-conference and non-region opponent, Delaware Technical Community College. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in the PE Building on the North East campus.
