CBC Essex Cruises Past Westmoreland, Improves to 6-2 on the Season, 4-0 in Region Pla

ROSEDALE, MD – CCBC Essex kept rolling on Sunday, shutting out Westmoreland 10-0 at The Kingdom. The Knights took an early lead and never looked back, improving to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in Region 20 play.

Offense Strikes Early and Often

The Knights broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning, plating three runs:

  • Freshman Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL) drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly.
  • Sophomore Brody Carroll (Church Hill, MD) followed with a two-run triple.

In the third inning, the Knights added three more runs:

  • Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL) executed a perfect safety squeeze, bringing home a run.
  • Sophomore Cameron Brewer (York, PA) doubled to center field, adding another RBI.
  • Garcia laced an RBI single down the right-field line.

Rommel Dominates in First Collegiate Win

Freshman Drew Rommel (Fallston, MD) (1-0) was in control, earning his first collegiate win with a five-inning gem. The right-hander allowed just three hits and zero runs, striking out one without issuing a walk.

Westmoreland's Sturner took the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over four innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Knights Shine at the Plate & on the Basepaths

  • CCBC Essex tallied nine hits, led by Garcia, Carroll, and Eduardo Zayas, who each had two hits.
  • Garcia delivered a game-high three RBIs and finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • The Knights stole six bases, including two by Garcia.

Westmoreland struggled to generate offense, with Roberts, Weaver, and Smith each recording a hit.
