Tyler Green Tosses Complete Game as Cardinals split doubleheader against Montgomery College

CATONSVILLE, Md. – The CCBC Cardinals baseball team split the doubleheader against the Montgomery College Raptors on Saturday afternoon at the Birds' Nest. Both teams came into the game in the Top Four of the Region XX DII standings and remain in place after Saturday's action with the Raptors being in second place and the Cardinals being fourth.

Game 1: Raptors 12 (17-13, 11-7), Cardinals 8 (18-19, 9-8). WP- A.J. Javitt (7-1), LP- Kieran Garner (4-4)

• The Raptors got the bats going early with the first two batters getting on base and then Javitt gave himself run support with a two-run single.
• In total, the Raptors plated five runners in the first on five hits.
• Trevor Smoot came in to relieve Garner after two outs in the top frame, Smoot pitched five innings in relief, striking out two.
• The Cardinals kept working against Javitt, who had the eighth lowest ERA in NJCAA DII coming into today and finally broke through on a Zeke Maldonado RBI-single in the third inning.
• Moises Aristy Jr. hit a home run in the second consecutive game as the Cardinals continue to cut into the Raptors' lead.
• Maldonado continued to rake at the plate hitting a two-run bomb in the fifth as the Cardinals pulled to within two, he also hit his second homerun in as many games.
• The Raptors took command of the game in the sixth scoring six including three on a dropped catch in the infield and had the 12-6 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
• Easy Goita got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, hitting his third home run of the season.
• Down four going into the bottom of the seventh, Jackson Campbell led off the inning with a single and came around to score as Maldonado hit his second two-run home run of the game, but the rally fell short for the Cardinals, who were downed 12-8 in the first game by the Raptors.

Game 2: Cardinals 7 (19-19, 10-8), Raptors 3 (17-14, 11-8). WP- Tyler Green (4-2), LP- Chris Hamann (2-4)

• After scoring twelve in the first game, the Raptors' offense stayed hot early in the second game plating two in the first inning and taking the early lead.
• Zeke Maldonado continued his home run streak with a lead-off home run in the first inning for the Cardinals. The Ellicott City, Maryland native has now homered in three straight games.
• With Andrew Caccamisi and Maldonado on base, Aronne Dutton sailed a ball past the center field fence to give the Cardinals their first lead of the day.
• After a slow start in the first inning, Tyler Green really commanded the game on the mound for the Cardinals. The Pasadena, Maryland native retired nine straight batters in the middle of the game as he cruised to his fourth win of the season, which is tied for first on the team.
• The Cardinals added more runs to the board in the fifth with Julio Aguilar Yon and Nick Carpio driving in a run each as the Cardinals had a 7-2 lead going into the sixth.
• The Raptors added an unearned run in the top of the sixth, but Green continued to dominate on the mound, tossing a complete game, fanning seven.

STANDOUT STATS

• Zeke Maldonado drove in six runs between the two games on Saturday, to increase his season total to 20, which is tied for third on the team.
• Maldonado hit three home runs on Saturday, which increases his season total to team leading seven, which is also tied for fifth in the Maryland JUCO Conference.
• Easy Goita drove in two runs on Saturday and now leads the team with 25 on the season.
• The three-run home run by Aronne Dutton put him in a tie for third on the team with 20 RBI's on the season.
• Tyler Green tossed his second consecutive complete game winning both games, giving up one earned run combined in the two starts.
• Green had seven punchouts on the day, which increases season total to 53, which leads the team and tied for fifth in the conference.
