Game Notes

The Riverhawks put up a commendable effort in their 3-0 loss to the NJCAA DII Region XX Raptors of Montgomery College this past Thursday night (9/27). Entering the AACC gymnasium with an undefeated season and current 13 game winning streak, there was much anticipation for the Raptor performance.

SET 1: The Riverhawks opened well against the Raptors; trading points and keeping it close for the first half of the set. Able to start stringing points together, Montgomery was able to pull away and claim the win, 25-14.

SET 2: A bit of a breakdown for the AACC squad, unfortunately allowing the Raptors to take advantage. With little working for them, the Riverhawks dropped 25-5 to Montgomery in set two.

SET 3: Pulling it together and putting forth the effort, the Riverhawks displayed their skill during the must-win set – but the Raptors were able to close out what they started; earning the 3-0 match victory by winning the third set, 25-20.

The Riverhawks seemingly made too many mental errors that unfortunately the Raptors would capitalize on but facing their toughest opponent of the season, AACC can still take some positives from the match as they are among the few teams to score highly against the now, 14-0 squad.

Brittney Guy (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 9 kills, 1 dig, and 4 aces off the serve. Sylvia Frye (Severn, MD/Glen Burnie) had 2 kills, 2 digs, and 2 aces off the serve, Kathryn Hawes (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) finished with 12 assists, and Serena Hochmuth (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) finished with 7 digs.

Up Next

The Riverhawks will have another tough opponent for their next match; scheduled to face the NJCAA DII Catamounts of Potomac State College of WVU. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. next Tuesday (10/2) in the Jenkins Gymnasium of the Anne Arundel Community College campus in Arnold, MD.
