Men’s Basketball Uses Offensive Playmakers To Power Owls To A Perfect Weekend

Prince George's men's basketball team entered Martin Luther King Jr. weekend facing the difficult task of having to take on two Region 20 Division III opponents on the road in less than 24 hours. Already sitting atop of the standings among NJCAA's Region 20 Division III men's basketball, the Owls first continued their dominance with a 120-65 win over Butler County Community College on Saturday evening, January 18th. The Owls didn't stop there as they had another offensive outburst the very next day with a 122-85 victory over Westmoreland County Community College. With both wins, Prince George's improved to 13-5 overall on the season, including a perfect 6-0 among Region 20 Division III opponents.

The Owls first opponent of the weekend, Butler County, was a familiar challenger as Prince George's had recently faced the Pioneers at home in early December which resulted in a similar 125-61 Owls victory. This time around, the Owls were playing with only five bench players whereas they had nine when they first played Butler County in Largo, Maryland on December 7th, 2019. Despite playing with a smaller bench, the Owls were able to dominate as both Brandon Joseph (18 pts, 10 rebs) and David Burriss (10 pts, 10 rebs) recorded double-doubles along with Tunde Scrivner who put up 19 points, 10 assists, and 10 steals en route to recording a triple-double in the Owls win.

Prince George's continued the next day against Westmoreland's Wolfpack who the Owls were able to top 122-85 as Scrivner again recorded a triple-double, this time a 31 point, 13 assist, 10 rebound outing. Forward Devin Hill also added a double-double with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

The Owls impressive weekend now brings their win streak to three straight as they prepare for their next opponent, conference rival Montgomery College. Prince George's will travel to face the Raptors on Saturday, January 25th to take on Montgomery who is currently ranked number four among Maryland JUCO standings.
