Bache Smacks Late Home Run to Give Cardinals Clutch Win

The Cardinals come back in promising fashion to defeat conference opponent Anne Arundel, in game two of their April 26th, doubleheader. With 14 hits, seven runs, and a showcase of resilience, the Cardinals play a complete game and gain their 21st win of the season.

This game would start with the Cardinals sending the first three Anne Arundel batters off the field with a pop fly and two strikeouts. Freshman pitcher, Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown High) would finish this game with six strikeouts and a W for the day. The second inning was all about a pair of runs scored, giving the team a much-needed early lead. Freshman outfielder, Mattie Brack (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) would get the first run, as she snuck her way to home plate. Along with her was freshman second baseman, Katie Weaver (Eastern Tech). The very next inning, sophomore outfielder, Mackenzie Brooks (Hammond) would air out her fifth home run of the season and give the Cardinals a four-run lead. In a game-changing effort, Anne Arundel would score five runs in the fifth inning and give themselves a lead for the first time this game. The Cardinals answered back in the sixth with a score from sophomore pitcher, Felicity Voss (Catonsville). Now a tied game, the Cardinals come back to officially seal this game away with freshman third baseman, Tori Bache, (Northeastern) going double digits and hitting her 10th home run of the season! Bache would also make her presence felt on the field, as all grounders that came her way turned into outs.

The Cardinals proceeded to maintain their lead and close out this game with a strong all-around win. With their successful season coming to an end, they have a secured spot in the upcoming Region 20 tournament and will count the days they can make their presence felt.
