Hawks split in Jim Brown Classic with sights on Harcum College

The Jim Brown Classic was held at the ARCC on the campus of Hagerstown Community College last weekend and featured a mixer between Allegany College of Maryland, Cumberland, MD, (9-2), Monroe College, New Rochelle, NY, (6-2), HCC (5-4), and Atlantic Cape Community College, Cape May, NJ, (2-7).

In Saturday's match ups, Allegany College of Maryland lost to Monroe College, 71-77 and Hagerstown won over Atlantic Cape CC, 81-70. On Sunday, Monroe won over the Hawks, 90-77 and Allegany College came away with the win over Atlantic Cape, 94-81.

Summing up his team's performances, Head Coach Bernard Hopkins noted that Saturday's win over Atlantic Cape was a sound win. "We rebounded well and played as a team on defense in the first half of the game, and then came out in the second half, executing technically sound offense while maintaining our defensive strategy. We lost to Atlantic Cape last year, so this was a good win." When asked about the repeat match up with Monroe College, Hopkins added, "We played much better against Monroe on Sunday than in our previous game in New Rochelle, a few weeks earlier. We played a solid thirty minutes of basketball, and despite unforced errors, we were able to cut Monroe's lead to four points at the half. In the second half, we continued to hang around, but failed to execute, and Monroe capitalized on that."

When looking to tonight's game at Harcum College, Hopkins noted, "Harcum is always a formidable opponent. This is a divisional game, and if we are able to take care of the ball and adjust to the Bear's size, we have the potential to come away with a road win."
