LCCC Men Win Sixth Straight Game With an Inspired Second Half, 104-79, over Westmoreland CC

November 21, 2017 – An inspired second half – featuring the hustle and overall standout performances from freshmen guards Justis Craig (pictured) and Montez Day --  turned a three-point halftime lead into a 25-point home-court romp over Westmoreland CC, 104-79, on Tuesday evening, November 21.

Craig came off the bench and in 15 minutes of action scored 14 points, four assists, no turnovers, and changed the game with 8 steals, many of which led to fast-break points.  Day was the recipient of several assists from Craig, leading all scorers with a game-high 19 points as well 3 rebounds,  4 assists and 4 more steals.

"Their defense triggered our offense to take the lead by as much as we did," Head Coach Marty Eggleston noted.  "Justis is a defensive specialist and he and Montez led the way," Eggleston concluded.

The key stretch was a 12-0 LCCC run midway through the second half that turned a 65-63 score into a 77-63 lead.  Day and sophomore forward Miles Meredith each tallied 5 points in that stretch.

Thirteen Commodores entered the scoring column, including a big 15 minutes off the bench from sophomore guard Jake Schultz with 14 points, 7 boards, 2 assists and 5 steals.  LCCC came up with a whopping total of 23 steals.  Sophomore Mike Rell contributed 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.  Meredith added 9 points, 2 assists and a rebound. 

LCCC shot 44.1 % (41-93) while holding Westmoreland to 31% (22-71) and outrebounded the Wolfpack, 46-34.

WCC put four players in double figures, led by 18 from sophomore guard Marcus Mullen.

WCC owns a 3-3 record while LCCC improves to a perfect 6-0.  The next action for the Commodores is Wednesday, November 29, at Lakeland CC for a 7:30 p.m. game.
